River betting

The river it is a very important round. If on the previous stages every player had the chance to improve his hand, on the river is the moment when a player either bets or bluffs. In this stage there is no need to kick someone out and there is no chance for semi- bluff.
The important thing is the decision of a player to play or not a hand pre flop. Once seen flop, each player he realizes if he made a strong hand, if it has not done anything but just a card, or not done anything and the flop is all in against him.
If a player has a flush draw from the flop , the best bet would be a raise, hoping to realize the desired hand or to force opponents to retreat. If so the river does not get the desired hand, should not give the impression that he had lost his bet and the hand but rather to give bet as he did realized the hand, situation in which many would fold or check, which is not good , his opponents realizing that he failed the hand and is no longer worth paying the river. In such situations it is most likely to receive a big bet and to be forced to fold and thus losing a large amount of chips. But don’t fall into the trap when you have inside straight draw. The chances to achieve the hand flop still up on the river are 17%, decreasing dramatically on the turn in the case when the hand didn’t happen to appear. With an open straight draw, the possibilities are doubles, and, depending on the amount required, you will choose to go forward or not.
An important strategy on river is check-raise strategy. Briefly this strategy consists of : BET-CHECK-RAISE. Meaning that you do a CHECK in the hope that someone after you , will make a bet, then make a raise. It resembles a bit with slow playing because both are different ways to play a strong hand and makes the other players to fall into the trap.

For, in terms of theory, the method must be correct in the following conditions:

   1. you think you have one of the best hands
   2. make sure that someone will bet after you

A CHECK-RAISE correct situation is when you get a pair on the flop , there are many players at the table, and you are in the early position. If you are used to check with the best cards on the flop, during the game may appear two interesting things:

   1. some of the players would not bet so often, being rather inclined to give you a free card with what you could win the hand
   2. even if the turn doesn’t appear nothing in your favor you can steal the pot by making a bluff , the idea is that players don’t suspect a bluff on the flop as long as on flop you didn’t bet.

Let’s take a concrete example: suppose that you have a hand of 9 10 (both of diamonds). On the flop: 8 (diamonds), 4, 2. You CHECK, another player makes BET, you give them call. On the turn it comes a J (diamonds). Now you can apply the strategy above: trying to steal the pot. It is indicated a BET. The idea is that if you get a call you still have more of a chance to win with a straight or color.
